This is a pic from a few days ago. I have always liked these long shadow pics they kind of show the amount of hours and varied conditions that I have endured the last few weeks. Most of you know that my ride is about raising money for The Joshua Chamberlain Society and the Veteran Heroes they support. My ride is self funded and every donation you make goes to these Soldiers and Marines. I have experienced a lot over the last few weeks Heat, cold, rain, aches, pains, Close calls, crazy dogs, nerve pain in hands and feet, using restrooms that would make a pig sick, eating junk to get enough calories to stay upright.
my challenge is this as I near the end of this journey ( 100 miles Friday and 70 miles Saturday ) consider giving up a luxury or dinner out this weekend and make a donation on my donate page. I appreciate the donation but know the Heroes appreciate it more.

Just a quick update. This is what I’m staring at right this moment pretty awesome. I’m staying on my reroute to avoid some of the really major hilly terrain up north. I know I haven’t spoke much of anything over the last couple weeks but a ride like this takes it’s toll on you physically. After the crazy up and down the hollers and chased by a dozen or more dogs I’ve tried to keep my route and train more rolling then climbing. I think I’m close enough to say there are quite a few aches and pains that I don’t want to get out-of-control. Numb hands, numb feet, knee aches, achilles aches. All are okay just keeping an eye on them. Miraculously no SADDLE SORES!!
I am staying in the reroute I planned out. It will make a bee line for Richmond then head toward Yorktown. I guess one good thing about doing this on my own is that I can do whatever I want. I have liked my reroute the scenery has been really pleasing and relaxing. I am looking forward to wrapping up in a few days. It seems like so long ago I was rolling around at 4:00 in the morning at Santa Monica.
keep sharing the link for my fundraising page. I have only sacrificed a little bit compared to what these soldiers and marines have given. Chilly day today. And ended up raining all afternoon. I got a hotel for the night to dry everything out. I am expecting rain the next few days. I finally had a good dinner at Cracker Barrel. Only a couple hundred more miles till I finish. It’s looking like Saturday morning. Feeling pretty good all things considered
On and off rain. Makes it hard to regulate your temperature. I did lose count of the dogs in KY. Only two in VA so far. And I was moving quick enough to lose them. I did save another turtle!
Good morning so far light drizzle. Cooler. My reroute has been a good decision. I’m not a Hardee’s eater but it was good. Even saw a Walmart. The terrain has been very forgiving also. Navigation is aliyyle tricky but i can see the other route on my gps
I have decided to do a pretty good reroute to hit more major towns. And be able to get food and lodging when needed. The scenery so far has been awesome.
Late night last night easy route. Only chased by one dog. Boy is that scary in the dark. All I heard were claws on the pavement. Luckily I was moving pretty quickly to begin with and he did not catch me.
should be able to get back on route today Another off route maneuver to get bigger shoulders for night riding. The roads I have been on for days now have zero shoulder and I just don’t care for that late at night.

Don ForthBeginning May 31, 2020 I will embark on a 3200 mile solo bicycle ride with no support vehicles following. As with my rides in the past I am raising money and awareness for The Joshua Chamberlain Society |
